Boba Bopomofo (“the app”, “we”) is a Zhuyin (注音) learning app. We built it to be privacy-friendly: there is no account, no sign-up, and we do not collect names, emails, or contacts. This policy explains the little data the app does handle.
Your lessons, XP, streak, review queue and settings are stored only on your device (local storage). We cannot see it, and it is removed if you delete the app.
To understand which lessons help people learn, the app sends anonymous, aggregated usage events (for example: “a lesson was started”, “a lesson was completed”). Each device is identified by a random ID generated on the device — it is not linked to you, your name, your email, or any advertising identifier. We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone, or browsing history.
Boba Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play, and managed through RevenueCat. Payment is handled entirely by the app store — we never see or store your card details. The store shares only whether your subscription is active.
Pronunciation is produced by your device’s built-in text-to-speech. Audio is generated locally on the device and is not recorded or uploaded.
If you turn on daily review reminders, they are scheduled locally on your device. No reminder data leaves the device.
The app is designed for adult learners of Taiwanese Mandarin and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
You can reset all local progress at any time in Settings → Reset all progress. Deleting the app removes all on-device data.
